THE REASON I AM IN GOVERNMENT ― VICE PRESIDENT, OSINBAJO

The vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has announced that his primary duty in the office is to attend to the needs of people and honour God.

The V.P noted this on Sunday in the 65th birthday and retirement thanksgiving ceremony for Capt. Usman Saleh Yahaya, a well-known Nigerian pilot, took place at the ECWA Goodnews Church, Maitama, Abuja, yesterday.

Vice-President Osinbajo said, ‘According to the scriptures, we are the salt of the earth. Each time people consult me, they say, oh, why are you in government? And I would say, why not?

‘God’s calling upon our lives is that we must be in assistance. What’s the sense of light if it is kept beneath a bushel? What’s the significance of salt if it is not added to the soup? If salt is scared of soup, what then is that kind of salt?

‘In scriptures, we read that we are the salt, so we should act the salt’s role. Now, salt is to improve the taste of things.

Prof. Osinbajo then stretched the matter to the church as an institution saying “That it is the duty of the church never to sacrifice hope. Truth be told, the only purpose why hope is one of the main pillars of the church is because the history of humanity, the history of people, began from despair. That’s why we are there to lend hope.”

Conveying his positiveness in the country’s bright future, Prof. Osinbajo said, ‘It’s very certain that no matter what we are experiencing today, our nation will be great. I’m very certain that as the Scriptures says, weeping may last for a night, but definitely, joy will come in the morning.’

No doubt,  distinguished Nigerians from all spheres of life have resumed praising for their service and commitment as Nigeria’s number two citizens. Many have even portrayed him as the best and most energetic vice president Nigeria has ever had.
