THE PAGEANTRY LIFE AN IDOMA BEAUTY, ALICE APACHE

The story of beauty pageantry in Nigeria will never be complete without the mention of Alice Apache Akla Ad’epe.

The journey of the 73-year-old, Born to the family of Akla Adept of the Oono family can be likened to the biblical Hadassah. She came ahead of her time.

After her elementary school, she joined her sister in the ancient city  of Kano for greener pasture after her elementary school in her hometown, Otukpo Icho, the present Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State

Against all odds, and of course, owing to her compelling beauty and countered carriage, she emerged as the miss Kano in 1962, a contest which is unknown to her; prepared and projected her for the Country’s pageantry contest in 1963

Eventually, she contested and won the Miss Nigeria in 1963, beating the other 22 contestants thereby printing her name on the sands of history as the second lady from Norther. Nigeria and the first from Idoma land to win the most revered crown.

Today, however, the ex-beauty queen’s story is in no way different from some Nigerians heroes past in fields such as soccer. Since she handed over the crown to her successor, Edna park in 1964, no much has been heard about her.

Life played a smart one on her and she found herself back in her village.
