Katsina: Customs auto crash - five reported dead.

Five people are feared dead in Katsina state as Custom’s patrol van ran into bystanders.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the  officers were chasing a vehicle suspected to be smugglers 

 

Confirming the incident On Monday,  the Nigerian Customs Service debunked the claim, stating that the fatal incident leading to the killing of five onlookers happened when one of the officers driving a patrol vehicle lost control.

The incident took place in Jibia local government area of the state which borders the Niger republic.

The interim Comptroller of NCS in Katsina, Dalha Wada-Chedi, also clarified that the onlookers met their unfortunate fate when the officers and operatives of the Border Drill, went to Jibia to get food.

“when they, unfortunately, missed control and ran over some people to death,” Mr Wada-Chedi said. “It’s quite disheartening. However, our cordial relationship with the communities, the police, military, and other security agencies to for stall the situation.”

In a further statement, he revealed that those affected in the collision surpassed the five onlookers mashed to death.

“Our inquiry at the moment revealed that five people died while others are receiving medical care in the hospital,” Mr Wada-Chedi

 “Our men affected are presently under the police care, an inquiry is already in progress to unfold the situations responsible for the incident.”
