FG MOVES TO DECLARE DAY FOR SENIOR CITIZENS.

The President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime has announced that it will very soon set a special day for the old people in Nigeria.
Particularly, Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, guaranteed that the government would soon announce a special national day for aged citizens.
‘Let me applaud Omokaro for the pace at which she is carrying out her work, wishing that, with the collection of the management board at her disposal, I’m convinced that the general goals of the NSCC will be archived in no time,’ Ms Farouq said while hosting the National Senior Citizens led by Emem Omokaro, it’s director-general. ‘Again, I want to guarantee the NSCC of my undiluted will to take on with the proposal brought by Omokaro via the appropriate ministries, agencies, and departments.’
The DG, Ms Omokaro solicited for the decree of a national day of aged persons in Nigeria within August and earlier in September 2021 to proclaim the first-ever National Senior Citizens Day festival in October 2021.

‘Also, we are soliciting assistance to the NSCC to ensure the National registration of senior citizens of Nigeria who are 70 years of age and above,’ said Ms Omokaro. ‘Our motive for this is for their effective designation for public respect, age-friendly obligations and privileges in banking services and facilities, air, road and rail transportation benefits and also health and hospital benefits.’
Federal Executive Council (FEC), authorized the centre in January 2018, But its board was formed in June 2021. The centre is to fend for the social interest of citizens within the age of 70 and above in areas such as healthcare, allowances, earnings security, recreation, extra income, and other social insurance safety.
